Attawapiskat Chief Theresa Spence is currently on a hunger strike and demanding a meeting with you, the Prime Minister of Canada. Her people are suffering and have shown the world the issues many First Nations face across Turtle Island.
I am aware that Minister John Duncan has agreed to meet with Theresa Spence, but that is not enough. First Nations’ relationships with settlers predate Canada, and First Nations leaders have the right to engage in nation-to-nation relationships with representatives of the Crown.
As a payer of Canadian taxes and a citizen of the Anishinabe nation, I am writing to demand you meet with Chief Theresa Spence.
